Why guardrails

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 put collective protection, which protects everyone on the roof without them having to do anything, ahead of personal equipment like harnesses. A guardrail is the clearest example: it works for every visitor, every time.

Types we install

  • Freestanding, counterweighted guardrail that does not drill through the roof
  • Fixed guardrail mounted on parapets or the face of the building
  • Folding guardrail that lies flat when not in use, out of sight from the street
  • Guardrails around roof hatches, plant and equipment
  • Self-closing gates at access points

Protecting your roof as well as your people

Freestanding systems sit on the roof on protective pads, so the waterproofing is not punctured and roof warranties are easier to keep. Where a fixed system is better, we seal every fixing properly.

Your report

After every job you get a short written report with before and after photos. It is evidence for your records, your inspector, your client or a deposit dispute.

Common questions

Do I need roof edge protection?

If anyone goes onto your roof, for maintenance, plant servicing or gutter clearing, you need to protect them from falling. Permanent guardrails are usually the simplest way where people go up regularly.

Will a guardrail damage my roof?

A freestanding, counterweighted system sits on protective pads and does not penetrate the roof covering.

Can guardrails be hidden from view?

Yes. Folding guardrails lie flat when not in use, which can help on buildings where appearance matters.
