What a Disabled Facilities Grant is
A Disabled Facilities Grant is council funding for changes that help a disabled person live safely at home. In England a grant can be worth up to £30,000. Owner-occupiers and tenants can apply, and landlords can apply on behalf of a tenant.
For adults the grant is means-tested. Grants for disabled children under 18 are not means-tested against the parents' income.

Important
Do not start DFG works until the grant has been approved in writing. Work done before approval is usually not covered.

Can you help me apply for a DFG?
The application goes through your council, usually with an occupational therapist's assessment. We provide the quote the council needs and carry out the work once it is approved.
Can a tenant get a Disabled Facilities Grant?
Yes. Tenants can apply, and landlords can apply on a tenant's behalf. The landlord's permission is normally needed for the work.
Do you do the larger DFG works such as wet rooms?
No. We cover rails, handrails, ramps and level access. For larger works the council can suggest other contractors.
